Mint Green

by Cithara Patra

When a blizzard blows in,

I pull out your mint green blanket

With its giant squares and stars

Knitted and stitched with love

I’ll throw it over my shoulders

And imagine your little arms

Throwing yourself over me

Your face nuzzling my shoulders

Your breath against my back

Your embrace warms my body

Your memories fill my heart

I’m dreaming of spring’s arrival

Green with its blades of grass and leaves

And picking flowers to lay on your grave

I’m dreaming of seeing you soon

But for now, I wrap that blanket tighter

As the cold winter fades away

And your ghost lingers

Soar to You

I saw your shadow tonight

splayed across my bedroom wall

You beckoned me to come closer

and join you in another world

Come with you to the better world

I reached out for your hand until

the sunlight poured through the blinds

and you faded away

Can I soar to you tonight?

Can we leave this broken world?

I want to go where you are now

Before the morning breaks

Through my window

My hands reach out to grab you

My heart longs to lay with you

Wherever you rest now

Together, we’d go through the skies

Cloud to cloud, star to star

Become shadows with the darkness

And disappear in the daylight

Can I soar to you tonight?

Sleep among the clouds and moon

Surrounded by stars, we’ll stay there

until the sun comes up

and morning breaks through my window

Every night before I sleep

I stare at the ceiling as the fan spins

For a second, I see your face

Hovering inches in front of mine

You hold out your hand

So I try to grab but never can

You go away as the morning breaks

Through my window

Can I soar to you tonight?

Join you in your better realm?

Take me away when you come

Don’t beckon me, I’m ready

to fly into the better life

With you
